Fuel can be an extremely dangerous commodity and needs to be managed with a high level of care and compliance. A fuel handling, transport and storage checklist is a tool that can be used to ensure that all safety precautions are in place and safety devices are fully functional.
Handling fuel refers to the various ways in which fuel can be moved or stored. There are many different methods of handling fuel, each with its own advantages and disadvantages. The safety data sheet for the type of fuel used should always be referred to and followed when handling fuel.
Where portable containers are to be positioned and transported on trucks or other vehicles, dedicated position systems should be present for all containers on the truck or vehicle. All containers should be stored vertically and be fully secured. Containers should also be protected from direct sunlight wherever possible.
